About the City
Spring Branch takes its name from the spring-fed creek that drew its first families to this corner of the Texas Hill Country in the 1850s. Hans Heinrich Dietrich Knibbe settled a homestead here in 1852, and within a few years five more families had put down roots along the banks of Spring Creek. More than a century and a half later, their community is a small incorporated city in Comal County.
Spring Branch incorporated in 2015 to keep a say over its own future. The city is deliberately modest in what it does: an elected City Commission meets in open, posted session to conduct the community’s business, the city maintains its public roads, and it keeps a transparent record of its meetings, ordinances, and finances.
